Valentine’s Day Treats

Valentine’s Day is approaching quickly! One of my favorite ways to decorate for every holiday is with themed treats. It is extremely practical to do this because you can make them in advance, use them as decoration, eat them/give them away as gifts, and then you don’t have to store them all year. For Valentines Day I will make heart-shaped rice krispies.

You’ll need:
3 T. butter
6 c. mini marshmallows
8 c. rice krispies
heart shaped chocolates- I used Hershey’s brand but any will work
lollipop sticks
clear treat bags

recipe makes 8-12 depending on how large you make the hearts.

First, melt the butter in a large pot. Add the marshmallows and stir often until melted. Remove pot from heat and add the rice krispies. Stir until evenly coated. Pour the mixture on a large cookie sheet. With your hands take roughly a cup of the mixture and shape it into a heart. If you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, you could use it as a mold to press the mixture into. I did mine by hand

Unwrap the chocolate candies
Melt the backs of the chocolate hearts on a small saucepan
Gently press the chocolate into the center of the rice krispies
Once set (30 min later) add a lollipop stick to the bottom
Cut a treat bag so it is just big enough to cover the rice krispie
Add ribbons or tulle to jazz it up
You are now ready to celebrate!

XOXO,

katie
