Things I’ve Learned Since Freshman Year

Study at a desk, not your bed. It is important to mentally have your working space different than your resting space.
Go to your professors office hours even if you don’t have a question. If you think of them as your mentor rather than just someone who gives lectures, you will ultimately do better. Professors want you to succeed and they are willing to help if you ask for guidance.
Exercise is so important. Just walking to classes is not enough. It is best to get your workout done in the morning so you feel refreshed and energized the rest of the day. Even if you think you look fine, exercise will make you healthier.
If you have a full schedule, take your phone charger with you. On the same note, put down the phone and actually talk to the people around you.
Its OK to not go out on the weekends. Sometimes its nice to just have ME time.
You don’t have to become best friends with your roommates. The important thing is that they are kind, respect you and your privacy, and keep their area clean.
Do not wear a lanyard. Ever.
Wait until after your first day of class to purchase your textbooks. Professors will frequently allow you to use older editions or they will mention the best place to purchase the book.
It is hard being away from home.
If you are trying to eat healthy, don’t buy things that are unhealthy. If the bad food isn’t in your kitchen, you wont eat it. Simple as that.
The day you get your syllabus is the day you put all of the important dates in your planner. This will help you avoid missing deadlines.
If you are going to a party, do not wear white clothing or nice shoes.
When you go to college you have a fresh start. You arrive without a reputation. You can be who ever you want.
Make friends in your classes. If you miss class for an unexpected reason, it’s good to have someone who can tell you what you missed.
You lose touch with people you thought you would be friends with forever.
Study and homework first, party later. Priorities people.
Join organizations. Not only can this be a great resume booster, but it’s also a good way to meet new people.
Always go to class. There are so many things you will miss or not be aware of if you skip.
XOXO,
