ROME

Rome is incredible!
We went to the Vatican and it was breathtaking! We arrived right at 8am so that we didn’t have to wait in a 2 hour line. (Smart thinking Dad!)
Every inch of space inside had some form of elaborate decoration, painting, statue or mosaic. You could easily spend a day taking in each piece of art. In addition to all the amazing things to look at, it was very special to be in such a religious place, knowing much of what has taken place inside previously.
After lunch, we took the metro to the Borghese Gallery where we saw paintings and sculptures from many famous artists including Bernini and Caravaggio.
We spent 2 hours in the museum looking at all the art pieces. I was fascinated by the skill level and thought process that had to go into such pieces the fulfilled every last detail.
For dinner we ate at Candido Ristorante. We enjoyed a typical Roman meal consisting of antipasto (appetizer), primo (first course), secondi (main course), and bevande (drinks).
My spaghetti carbonara was made with much larger pasta than I was used to. Also, they do not use the egg whites on the dish. It made the experience totally new.
This was my calimari. The pieces that look like french fries are actually squid as well. It was delicious!
My first full day in Rome was packed! The whole day we were touring something. I know I will enjoy the rest of my time here!
XOXO,
