Dorm Crafting!

This past week I moved into my dorm room. As I was preparing to move I looked up ideas for dorm decorations. The biggest thing that stood out to me was that wall decorations were often forgotten. Everyone remembers the cute bedding, monogrammed towels, or even pictures of their dog, but somehow walls were forgotten.
Being the innovative girl that I am I started dreaming up projects to make for my walls. I went to Hobby Lobby and found a large square frame with this picture in it:
It was very beaten up but at the 90% Christmas discount I knew it was worth fixing. I only needed the frame anyway.
First step was to change the paint color.
Once my dad spray painted it, I realized there were some pretty big cracks on the corners. The frame was originally brown so they weren’t noticeable. Because I decided to do this on the road traveling with my family, I didn’t have any putty to fix the cracks in the frame. Toothpaste turned out to work really well!
While the paint dried I began to work on the artwork for the inside. Typical Katie move-I did a monogram. I drew it out in pencil before I began. I am pretty good at free handing things like this but I always feel better if I know I can erase it. Just in case.
I did two coats to make sure the paint was even.
It looked even better once I put it in the freshly painted frame.
I was very happy with how it looked in my dorm once it was all done. It is the perfect southern and preppy piece to complete my look.
XOXO,
