Chic Whitewash Desk DIY
In a week I will be moving from my furnished apartment into a house. My awesome parents are driving to Lubbock to help me move and bring a bed for my room.
In Lubbock, towards the end of July, there are many students moving and selling their furniture. There are a couple pieces I need so I have been looking around a lot. I was able to score this perfect sized writing desk for $20!
I loved the size but not the look. For the price I knew it was worth buying to upcycle.
First I sanded, primed, and painted the desk white. Then I measured the top and made a trip to Home Depot. Being a woman and going to Home Depot by yourself is an interesting experience. The amount of times I get asked if I “need help” is unreal. Kudos to Home Depot for having helpful employees…or something like that. When you add in a sorority shirt and start shopping in the lumber department, it gets even more exciting. S/O to the awesome guy at Home Depot for helping me figure out what I needed!
Once I was home, I was able to glue on the boards to the top of the desk using a super-adhesive wood glue.
I let this dry overnight. The next day I was able to sand the top surface of the boards so it was smooth and flat on top. I did all my sanding by hand-AKA LOTS of hours watching Food Network. The next day I showed my friend and he informed me he has an electric sander…oh well, I put lots of love into it!
To finish the look, I mixed white acrylic paint with water and whitewashed the top.
After it was dry, I put one coat of sealer on.
I absolutely love the end result and cannot wait until I can move it into my new room! Oh so chic!
XOXO,

Fabulous! Great job recycling and up cycling. I’ll take you with me the next time I need something from Home Depot.
