Barolo, Piedmont & Barolo Wine

We traveled to the town of Barolo for the day to explore and try the Barolo wines. The majority of them are made from the Nebbiolo grape which is quite popular for this region.

We started the morning by going to Castello Falletti which is a museum in the town dedicated to show how important wine is in the Italian culture. It gave history on what life was like when all wines were made by hand and the family that started that particular winery. The way the tour was set up was interesting but we did not have a guide to ask questions about their process. In the tasting room, they had a huge display of their wine collections still for sale.

The town was small and built for tourists. We went to a wine cork museum and lunch during our free time before the next winery.

Our second winery visit was to Marchesi di Barolo winery. Just like every other winery, they aged the wine in barrels. What was different about theirs is the shape. They are oval. This is to keep the pressure distributed to help produce a better wine.

In the tasting room, the staff made their guests feel very comfortable. The environment was less formal than I was used to. I think this would be a benefit to those who are intimidated when making wine selections or have little information on this topic.

In the isolated farm-land town of Novello, we were able to find 3 places to eat for dinner- our hotels restaurant, another hotels restaurant and a café selling microwave pizza. We walked the entire town in a matter of minutes and decided to stay at our hotel. We tried.

It was a successful day with the Barolo experience!

XOXO,
