A Day in Assisi

After a long and early morning train from Venice, we finally made it to Assisi, Italy! It took another 45min for a taxi to arrive to take us to the heart of the town. While waiting we thought about walking to the home we were staying, but ultimately decided to continue waiting because it was 2 miles uphill.
After putting our luggage away, we began exploring the town. We visited the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi where we attended Mass and saw St. Francis’ crypt. Because the Mass was given in Italian, I did my best to follow along. Regardless of the language, the service was still incredibly beautiful.
For dinner we enjoyed pizza and wine “take-away” on our terrace overlooking the hillside.
When the tour buses left in the evening, the town became even more special. Assisi is a popular tourist destination; it was more peaceful later in the day when the bells were ringing and the sun began to set over the charming old town.
The home we stayed in was inside the walls of Assisi and it was over 1000 years old. I have been raised to sleep with a fan on. I sleep so much better when I can hear the soothing noise it makes and feel the air. There was no fan in our room. Absolutely nothing. Not even AC. We decided to use an app for white noise. My little sister, Grace, wanted the “cat meows” all night but we chose the “heavy rain” instead. Not nearly close to what a real fan provides but it worked ok.
Our time in Assisi was brief, but we were able to see much of the small town in just one day. It was quite a charming place.
XOXO,
